Week 2: Align Your Time & Energy
Control the Chaos Series – Our Next 50 Years
If Week 1 was about clearing space, Week 2 was about deciding what deserves that space.
After eliminating physical and mental clutter, the next natural step was alignment—making sure my time, energy, and attention reflected what actually matters in this season of life.
And here’s what surprised me most: when alignment is intentional, peace follows quickly.
What Alignment Looked Like in Real Life
This week wasn’t perfect—but it was purposeful.
Because I protected what mattered, I was able to:
-
Get all of my workouts in
-
Commit to the faith activities I had set as a goal
-
Schedule an evening with friends to play pickleball
-
Protect intentional white space on Friday night
None of those things happened by accident.
They happened because I stopped letting my calendar fill itself
The Small Shifts That Made the Biggest Difference
Week 2 reinforced an important point: alignment doesn’t require drastic change—just consistent decisions.
Here are a few simple adjustments I’m carrying with me into the following weeks:
-
Unsubscribed from notification texts that constantly pulled my attention
-
Unsubscribed from sales emails that created unnecessary noise and distraction
-
Started setting alarms on my phone instead of relying on mental reminders
-
Left work on time, without guilt
-
Ran one errand per day, which finally allowed me to make all of my returns
Individually, these changes seem small.
Together, they created margin.
What I Learned About Time & Energy
Here’s the truth most of us don’t want to admit:
Chaos often isn’t about having too much to do. It’s about doing too much of what doesn’t align.
When your calendar reflects your values:
-
Life feels lighter
-
Decisions feel clearer
-
Energy lasts longer
Margin isn’t laziness. Margin is leadership.
Alignment Is a Skill You Can Practice
Week 2 wasn’t about rigid schedules or productivity hacks.
It was about:
-
Protecting non-negotiables
-
Creating white space
-
Setting boundaries without over-explaining
-
Letting structure support freedom—not replace it
Alignment doesn’t eliminate responsibility. It simply ensures your best energy goes to the right places.
Looking Ahead
As we move into Week 3, the focus shifts from individual rhythms to marriage and family connections.
Because when our time and energy are aligned personally, we show up better for the people we love most.
If you’re following along, here’s a simple reflection question to carry with you:
What one small alignment this week made the biggest difference?
Controlling the chaos isn’t about doing more. It’s about choosing better—one intentional week at a time—as you build your next 50 years.
