Saturdays Look a Little Different

I see the posts of my Facebook friends posting about all their exhausting weekends. Tis the season of recitals, ballgames, birthday parties, concerts, and family outings. Many of you have multiple of these on the same day. It wasn’t long ago when our Saturdays mimicked the very posts I see today. What a gloriously exhausting season. Saturdays look a little different for us now. While we might wake up earlier than we did then, it’s just because our internal clocks tell us to, not because we have a 2-hour drive and a game starting at 8 AM. I’ll be the first to say, I miss it. During that season, I don’t know that I ever thought I knew how much I would miss it, but we both do. Different, doesn’t mean it’s bad, we are just learning a new way to enjoy our life and a different pace. We are finding a little more spontaneity and a lot less pressure.

Gibbs Garden Center

If you’ve traveled on I-65 in the last few years, you’ve probably watched this nursery just explode in terms of greenhouses and plants. I’ve been a few times and have loved the plants I have purchased. I love our local options, Little Pink Houses and Reseda too, but sometimes, you just want to drive south and make an experience out of getting flowers and that’s exactly what we did.

You will pay a service charge if you use a card, so make sure you take cash!

This is what we bought….

This is what it looks like planted. I’ll have better pictures after Mother’s Day when everything is ready for our annual Mother’s Day lunch. But for now, you can see a glimpse of where we planted things.

Spontaneity

Earlier I mentioned spontaneity, and well, neither of us is great at it, but we are trying to get better. Just an opportunity to go with the flow. After we loaded up at Gibbs, we noticed they had a food truck. Since we had not had lunch yet, we decided to give it a try. Wow! What a nice surprise that was!

Stone’s All Fired Up

We loved chatting with the chef and invited him to Friday’s After Five. Y’all, this Fried Green Tomato Grilled Cheese with Bacon Sandwich was one of the most flavorful things I’ve ever eaten. If you see this food truck around, you will want to give it a try!

Final Thoughts

Even though our Saturdays look different than the days of the past, we are finding a lot of joy in this stage and know the best is yet to come.

By the way, my sweet Moma bought me these hand tools and they are a total game changer. Easy to use and great for someone who has hand issues (RA) like me!
